BTS are back home after their tour to the United States. The band visited the country upon the invitation of President Biden on the occasion of the AANHPI (Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander) Heritage Month.
However, before meeting with President Biden on May 31st, the band spoke to the media at House White.
The White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre introduced the band to the media as “pop phenoms” and “Grammy-nominated international icons… [who] play an important role as youth ambassadors promoting a message of respect and positivity.”
Following the warm introduction by Pierre, each member of the band talked to the media, starting with the group leader, RM, who said,
“Thank you, Karine, for your kind words. Hi, we’re BTS, and it is a great honor to be invited to the White House today to discuss the important issues of anti-Asian hate crimes, Asian inclusion, and diversity.”
Anti-Asian hate crimes took a toll, especially during the pandemic. Inviting artists of influence such as BTS is a great way to address the problem.
