BTS is the first foreign group in history and the second foreign artist ever to top Oricon’s year-end albums chart.
On December 22, Oricon, the largest music statistics site in Japan, announced the results for the most-sold album of 2021, after the analysis of the data compiled from December 28, 2020, through December 20, 2021.
And according to the results, “BTS, The Best” outdid others in the competition with a whopping sale of 993,000 copies of the album in the country over the last year.
This is distinguishing since it is the first time in 37 years for a non-japanese artist to top the tally after Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in 1984.
Congratulations, BTS on this historic victory!
